AKEL: Erdoğan Hükümeti Sol Muhalefeti Susturmaya Çalışıyor

AKEL, SDP’yle dayanışma mesajı yayınlayarak, darbeci ve antidemokratik uygulamaları engellemek iddiasıyla Anayasa’da değişiklik yapan Referandumdan yalnızca 1 hafta sonra demokratik kurumlara operasyon yapılmasını kınadı.

Message of solidarity to the Party of Socialist Democracy in Turkey

AKEL condemns the indefensible arrest and detention of the leadership and members of the Socialist Democracy Party in Turkey by the Turkish security forces, since the 21^st of September.

The specific action, that was accompanied by the inexcusable violent raid by the armed forces on the offices of the Party and houses of those arrested, as well as the seizure of material, constitutes a flagrant attack on the values of democracy and political freedoms. The pretext given by the authorities about an alleged cooperation of the leadership of the Party with an illegal paramilitary organization was completely unsubstantiated, given that the leadership in question is composed of people who have always conducted lawful and public activity in the country.

The authoritarian way in which the whole operation was carried out leads to the conclusion that Erdogan’s government tried to silence a left opposition voice that takes a firm critical position towards the government. The irony lies in the fact that this operation was waged just one week after the approval by the referendum of democratic amendments to the Turkish Constitution that are aiming to constitute a bulwark to the repetition of coupist and anti-democratic actions in the country.

AKEL condemns any undemocratic actions taking place in Turkey and demands that the Turkish government set free the leadership and the members of the Party. Furthermore, we express our unreserved solidarity with the Socialist Democracy Party and hope that it will soon function again with its democratic participation ensured on the Turkish political scene.
